Born in Constantinople, third son of Mikhael Tornikes an influential Stratelates (Byzantine Major General). My gentle gift went unnoticed (or any strangeness conveniently ignored). I started physical training along with my other private tutors. As a youth becoming a young adult, I also had limited interaction with the frequent military and political guests of my father. One of Mikhael’s responsiblities was dealing with mercenaries.
At age 14, my father’s estate was destroyed in the sacking of Constantinople. My life was further changed when the following year my pater showed up on the doorstep to solicit my family’s permission to take me for the training that my skills demanded. My pater found me not because I had called attention to myself, but due to his personal study of war gods and his search for their descendents. My father agreed, after some doom and gloom preaching from my pater about untrained magical gifts and how I would still be serving in a military role as a Tremere. My father asked that I continue to be trained in sword work, which fit with my pater’s desire to experiment with my apprenticeship, so he agreed.
My pater was a member of the Cold Iron Vexillation. In addition to the usual apprenticeship training, my training included martial activities, traveling with my pater to various spots of faerie trouble, and diplomatic relations among various nobility and military leaders.
Stephanos has been trained as a generalist with a strong martial background. His Faerie Blood has not been shared with the newly gauntleted magus, his pater choosing to save that detail for fear of attracting the jealous interest of Tremere or other magi. Stephanos has had a series of unfortunate romantic encounters, that have amused his pater despite their inconvenience, leaving him very wary of the opposite sex.
